ISSUE NO. 4 — “HUMAN MADE”

FEATURED IN OUR

  • Ryan: “It started when I was 18—we launched that year, but it had already been two years in the making. Back in year 10, like most kids, I was figuring out what I wanted to do after school. I knew I didn’t want to go down the traditional path. I loved sports, music and fashion. Fashion made the most sense. I saw people doing it and being semi-successful. You don’t really see 16-year-olds becoming athletes or musicians, right? But a clothing brand? That felt real.

I started researching the fashion industry. YouTube and Google taught me everything—screen printing, transfers, fabric, building a site. I bought blanks from America, heat-pressed them at home in Perth, and shipped them out made-to-order.

As for the name, it came later. I kept the project to myself while I was learning. I didn’t want the noise or the hype, because I saw others go too loud, too fast, and fall off. I wanted to test if people outside my friends and family would actually buy it. That mindset became the name–PRIVACY–and it fit. And when I checked trademarks, it was somehow available.”

  • Ryan: “Getting noticed. That’s the hardest part for any brand. You can have the best product in the world, but convincing the world of that? It takes time. Fashion is saturated. Customers have been burnt before. They're cautious. Social media helps, but it took us six years to hit a real audience. Consistency and stacking small wins—that’s the game.”

  • Ryan: “Aggression. But also patience. I knew this would work, so every day was about solving the next problem. And knowing there’s always another one coming. That mindset is everything.”
