OKTOBER SKYE
OKTOBER SKYE is a Sydney-based jewellery label founded by self-taught designer Jacob Bovino, built on process, patience, and imperfection. Inspired by raw textures found in nature and the emotional pull of sculpture, each piece is handcrafted to feel like an artifact—weathered, worn, and deeply personal. From casting to carving, Bovino’s practice embraces trial and error as part of the story, with every flaw intentionally embedded into the final form. At its core, OKTOBER SKYE is not about polish—it’s about honesty. Jewellery that captures the rough beauty of becoming.

Jacob: That you don’t have to figure everything out upfront. I spent too much time trying to perfect the branding, the aesthetic, before I even made anything. It held me back. I wish I just kept going, stayed focused on the making. Because your brand finds its voice as you do.

Jacob: Yeah—still do. It was called Lunar, and it’s still part of my collection, but the original looked nothing like the version you see now. I started out with sand casting, and when you’re new to it, imperfections are everywhere. That first piece was rough—really rough—but I saw something in it. Those flaws ended up shaping the brand. Now, even though my technique has improved, I intentionally go back in and add these imperfections. It’s part of the aesthetic. A mistake became a signature.

Jacob: Just start. Learn the basics, sure—but don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Buy the tools, mess around, sample your ideas. Also, don’t compare your pricing to fast fashion. You’re building something with intention. Let that guide you. And don’t be afraid to reach out—collaborate, network, talk to people. It’s not always about algorithms. Sometimes it’s just about showing up and being open.
